CREATE A POSITIVE OUTLOOK
People always ask me, “How do you stay so positive? What makes you so smiley and happy all the time?” My answer: my positive outlook is there because I put it there. The key to happiness isn’t a secret. It’s actually a set of very specific actions that help you create a life that you love. It’s about realizing your full potential, going after your dreams, and finding fulfillment and purpose in the simple things every single day. You can’t create a positive outlook without first believing in yourself.
HAPPY DOESN’T MEAN PERFECT
The biggest misconception about finding happiness is that it’s always perfect. But happiness isn’t perfect!Sometimes life gives you lemons…. or really sad avocados 😉
Let me explain… the other day I had the worst luck I’ve ever had with cutting into a brand new avocado (you can see in my Instagram post below) and I couldn’t help but laugh at the beautiful lesson life just gave me: everything is not always in your control. No matter what you do, life is always going to throw you curve balls, close doors that were once open, and laugh a little bit at your wildest dreams. BUT GUESS WHAT – that means you just have to push a little harder and fight for what you truly want.
THE HAPPINESS SCAM
When you try your hardest, it still might not work – but you tried. That’s exactly why I’m conscious of my world around me and take my world in with a giant happiness filter.
I try my best to create a positive outlook by…
- Seeing things from other’s perspective.
- Treating everyone I meet (in person or online) with respect.
- Not taking my own drama out on the people I love.
That way, I always put my best self out there and open doors for myself. You are in charge of how you perceive the world and treat others, and I’m a firm believer that what you put out into the universe, you also get back. But still, I learned to be tough when I needed to be, forgive instead of hold grudges, and accept what I could not change (especially people). You 1000% CAN be happy without having a “perfect life” if you create a positive outlook. It’s not about what you have, it’s about what you think of what you have… and that my friends, is the “happiness scam“.
10 THINGS YOU NEED TO BE HAPPY
Anyone can be happy – it’s a choice. Creating a positive outlook is a conscious effort of setting yourself up for a life that’s fulfilling, meaningful, and empowering 🙂
1. Ditch toxic relationships.
Yes, that’s #1! The most important thing you can do to be happy is surround yourself with positive relationships. You are a product of the people you surround yourself with, so it makes a huge difference if you’re happy with the people in your life!
- Step 1: Spend more time nurturing the positive relationships.
- Step 2: Distance yourself from negative relationships.
- Step 3: Make a conscious effort to only create new relationships with people whose company you truly value.
2. Be part of a community of people that loves you.
Family, friends, gym friends, coworkers, WHOEVER! Having a community is important because it means you have support. In order to keep a positive outlook on life, you need to feel safe and secure in taking risks. You need to know that no matter what happens, you’ll always have somewhere that you can go. If you have a community of people behind you, you’ll always have a team of cheerleaders pushing you to be the best version of yourself!
3. Stop paying so much attention to the mirror.
It sounds cliche, but life truly is more about the confidence that comes from within. When you STOP tearing apart your appearance, you can finally let the light inside shine. There aren’t quick fixes for happiness, trust me. Getting abs won’t make you happy, even if you feel like they’d solve all of your problems.
Embrace your natural beauty if you want a positive outlook on life that LASTS.
4. Follow your heart/passion/dreams.
Life is never too short to go after what you love. You can’t expect to be happy if you don’t find the passion projects that truly fulfill your life. Maybe it’s getting that yoga teacher certification, taking up that new hobby you’ve been wanting to try, or simply volunteering at your local animal shelter.
Big or small, nothing you do that you love is insignificant.
5. Become financially free.
Financial stress is perhaps the worst stressor you can face – and it harms your health and positive outlook a TON. People with lots of debt or other money troubles have a hard time feeling secure and a hard time reducing their overall stress, not good! There’s nothing that ways you down more than financial stress, so get a mentor, get creative, minimize, or makes some changes so you can get on a plan to become financially free!
6. Get healthy.
Being healthy is incredibly important for tons of reasons, but most importantly to a positive outlook, it helps you feel good! If you’re dealing with health issues, it’s incredibly important to focus on a healing strategy. Being healthy is not just for looks – it’s for energy, clarity, and vitality so you can enjoy your WHOLE life in happiness and good health.
The simplest ways to get healthy: eat real food, move your body, and sleep well!
7. Move your body.
Movement is life! Just like you need good nutrition, you need to move your body to flow all that nutrition through your body. Some of the best options are to dance, walk, lift weights, do yoga, and swim…. but really, the options are endless! Moving your body is absolutely crucial to a positive outlook because it helps boost your mood and also gives you energy.
8. Manage your stress before it happens.
Lose the perfectionist mindset and DO something that makes you happy.
- Get high-quality, restful sleep.
- Move your body in a way that feels good.
- Eat a balanced, healthy diet that works for you.
- Adopt a healing practice like yoga or meditation.
There are tons of ways to manage stress, so just remember to b r e a t h e.
9. Love something alive that’s more than yourself.
When you have compassion for other people/animals/nature, you stop being so wrapped up in all of your own problems. The gratitude for helping others is so rewarding emotionally and mentally. Focus on volunteering, adopt a pet, or focus on the relationships in your life for simple steps to opening up your heart.
10. Find joy in food and/or cooking.
People who love to eat are truly the best people (thanks, Julia Child!) – but seriously, when you finally heal that messed up relationship with food – IT’S SO FREEING!
