Hi guys, this is an Instagram post I wrote about how I felt about dieting. Honestly, part of me felt really great! But that happiness only lasted a short while before everything got SO much worse. Here’s why.
DIETING DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN YOU’RE UNHAPPY.
I went on a diet freshman year of college to fix my relationship with food and my body (there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to CHANGE things about yourself that you don’t like👏🏼) and it worked… for a while.
I was able to heal my IBS-C, got way super strong in the gym, felt confident in my bikini, and was excited about how easy it was for me to feel really good about myself for the first time in my life. I WAS PROUD OF MYSELF ❤️ (there is nothing inherently wrong with being happy about reaching the goals you set for yourself)
BUT THEN WHAT I WAS DOING BECAME UNSUSTAINABLE.
I reached the “now what? 🤔😬😳” phase and instead of CHANGING MY GOALS TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN FOOD AND MY BODY, I kept pushing harder and harder to be even more “optimal” and that BROKE MY RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD EVEN MORE THAN BEFORE I WENT ON A DIET IN THE FIRST PLACE!
It happened to me 😩 that thing that everyone warns you about when you diet. But I thought I was different. I thought I created a “healthy lifestyle” and that I would be able to do THIS for forever. But YOU CAN’T RESTRICT FOR FOREVER 💔 it breaks you.
So I had to rethink EVERYTHING 🤨 If changing my food and my body so drastically didn’t permanently heal my relationship with my food and my body, what would⁉️ And eventually, that question led me to some deep revelations.
3 THINGS I HAD TO ACCEPT
1️⃣I have to accept my body daily as it is right now, or else I will never feel confident in my own skin.
2️⃣Food will not fix me. I have to fix myself.
3️⃣The surface things like emotional eating and body hate stem from the DEEP things, which you have to stop running from if you ever want to truly find food freedom and body peace.
GUYS, dieting is freakin’ complicated 👉🏼 but food freedom is SIMPLE. You need to be aware of what’s really going on, so you can make sustainable changes little by little, to create a life beyond food that supports your healthy and happy relationship with food and your body.
