Hi friend and future Food Freedom Warrior! This post is all about the MOST important question I used to find Food Freedom for life. But guess what… almost no one asks themselves this! Crazy, right?!
But we have to ask ourselves this question!! Because when we know why we’re self-sabotaging our relationship with food, body image, and fitness… we can use that information to heal that relationship from the root! And then find Food Freedom for life! 😉
YOUR BODY IS MORE THAN ENOUGH
I promise that you can have Food Freedom for life… I promise you I did it. You can have everything in the world and then some… but the key is, it’s not a physical thing, it’s a mental thing. When you finally decide that YOU are enough and trust that your body image isn’t dependant on how you look… but how you FEEL, then you’ll finally be able to heal your relationship with food.
Yeah, it’s actually that simple.
That’s the most basic idea, but of course actually doing it is a little more complicated. And your body image is a crazy hard thing to release control of. We want to have a “perfect body” so that we can finally “love” ourselves because that’s the thing we “need” in order to be “happy”. Yeah, there’s a lot of quotes going on because it’s so not true!
BODY IMAGE IS MY BIGGEST STRUGGLE
When I asked myself the most important question to find Food Freedom for life, I found out that accepting my body was my biggest struggle. I’ve so been there where you don’t feel like you can give up restricting your food because you’re afraid that the slightest slip up will make you gain weight. So yeah, I’ve struggled with loving my body. I’ve been disappointed by the changes of gaining weight after working so hard to lose it. But at the same time, I had to learn to let go of the thing that was hurting me the most: the fear of gaining weight.
I’ve pretty much conquered that fear at this point in my Food Freedom journey.. and I’ve talked about body positive tips already on the blog. But some days I struggle a little bit with body positivity… and that’s OKAY 🙂 And when I have those moments I ask myself the most important question I need to find Food Freedom for life.
THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: “WHY?”
Seriously, the MOST important question is to ask yourself WHY.
- Why am I so scared of gaining weight?
- Why can’t I just eat more food when my body was begging me to?
- Why can’t I skip a workout?
And for most of the women I ask, the answer always comes back to their body. I know for sure that it was the reason for me. I wanted to be “perfect”, I wanted to have the “bikini body” I saw all over Instagram, and I wanted to finally “love” myself because I could be proud of how “fit” and “thin” I was. But that happiness never came… even when I had abs.
ASK YOURSELF, “WHY?”
Why do you desperately want to change your body? Why can’t you stop binging? Why can’t you stop restricting your food choices? Why can’t you stop counting calories? Why can’t you recover from your ED?
We should ask ourselves “why?” wayyyy more often. BUT WE DON’T!
Instead, we validate our suffering by making our body image the goal of our entire life. Not only is it not sustainable… it’s downright self-sabotaging. The acceptance of your suffering is NOT okay… and you CAN heal your relationship with food and your body image by finding Food Freedom for life!
And you can start your Food Freedom journey here:
BODY POSITIVITY ISN’T 100% PERFECT
Personally, my body image has always been the “why?”. And I’ve always wanted a perfect body because I never felt good enough as a human being. (I shared my journey to self-love here.)
So today in the shower I told my body that I trusted it. I repeated to myself out loud, “body, I TRUST you”. It was a little self-therapy meditation (strange I’ll definitely admit but wildly comforting). I had to speak my truth to myself. Because time and time again, the thing that holds me back on the toughest days are the thoughts I have about my own body not being good enough. (It happens to all of us.) We can all feel insecure about our body at times.
But do you need a “perfect body” or perfect eating habits in order to go after your dreams and LIVE your life? Hell NO️!
I can’t let my insecurities hold me back from enjoying, living, and loving who I am. I refuse to do that anymore. So here I am today telling my body I trust it… because releasing that control means I can do so much more of what makes me happy!
STOP COMPARING YOUR JOURNEY TO EVERYONE ELSE’S
- Don’t compare your suffering to anyone (especially on Instagram).
- Don’t let bikini competitions and models make you feel like your body isn’t good enough.
- Don’t let your happiness be dictated by someone else’s life!!!
You are your own person. You are a unique human being that is worthy of love no matter what you’re going through. But YOU are the only one in charge of those feelings.
So ask yourself why:
- Why am I doing this?
- Why does it feel miserable?
- Why do I keep doing it anyway?
Because these answers are powerful and they are the key to healing your relationship with food and your body for LIFE!
HOW TO FIND FOOD FREEDOM FOR LIFE
The most important thing you have to do next: LEARN from those answers!! Ask yourself WHY, and then learn from what you discover. Then you have to start digging deeper and explain what you ACTUALLY want from your life… instead.
Here’s the simple way to dig deeper:
If the world didn’t have social media, didn’t have mirrors, and didn’t have cameras… WHAT WOULD YOU WANT FROM YOUR LIFE?️ (Seriously, think about it.)
Because you can’t compare your journey to anyone else’s, you can’t keep punishing yourself for doing the best you can (because you are, even if you think you can still do better), and you can’t keep suffering the consequences of self-sabotage on your mind, body, and soul… Because eating disorders can take everything… but they do NOT have to.
Food Freedom is 100% possible, you just have to start asking the most important questions.
